The Supreme Court has stayed the interim protection from arrest granted to Congress leader Pawan Khera in a case filed in Assam over allegations of forgery and fabrication of documents.

A bench of justices J K Maheshwari and AS Chandurkar issued a notice to Khera on the Assam Police's petition challenging the Telangana high court's order granting him one-week interim relief.

The Supreme Court observed that Khera had not shown any reason why he could not seek relief from the courts in Assam and accused him of 'forum shopping'.

Khera had sought regular bail before the Telangana high court even as the case was filed in Guwahati, and the court noted that the material on record did not support the invocation of jurisdiction in Telangana.
