The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government, led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, held its first cabinet meeting at the Secretariat on Friday. During the meeting, the chief minister introduced 436 new projects across various departments, focusing on youth empowerment, women's welfare, and making Tamil Nadu drug-free.
Minister for Energy Resources and Law CTR Nirmal Kumar said that the chief minister has set specific targets for each department and assigned a total of 436 projects. The respective ministers will now work with their department officials to draw up detailed action plans for implementation.
In a significant move towards a drug-free Tamil Nadu, the government has already shut 717 state-run liquor shops. The police department has been ordered to eradicate the menace completely, and the Goondas Act is being invoked against individuals involved in the sale of synthetic drugs.
Additionally, shops selling gutkha have been sealed, with over 24 shops in Madurai being identified and sealed within a single week. The government's ultimate goal is to make Tamil Nadu a drug-free state, and efforts are being made to tackle the rampant drug circulation that existed in the last 5 years.
