A seasoned paragliding pilot lost his life after a tandem paraglider crashed in the Bir Billing area of Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district on Friday evening. The incident, which has raised serious concerns about safety protocols at adventure sports destinations, occurred when the paraglider is believed to have developed a technical malfunction shortly after take-off, causing it to lose balance mid-air. The pilot, identified as 40-year-old Mohan Singh, a resident of Barot in Mandi district, died on the way to the hospital, while the accompanying tourist sustained injuries but is reported to be out of danger after receiving medical attention. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident, with authorities examining whether a technical fault, human error, or weather-related factors were to blame. The incident has led to the suspension of all paragliding activities in the area for a day as a mark of respect. The authorities are also reviewing safety arrangements at the site, including regular equipment checks, pilot certification, and adherence to safety protocols. 'We have sought all documents and information related to the accident from the marshals and technical advisors stationed at the site,' said Vinay Kumar, District Tourism Development Officer, Kangra. 'Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation report.'
