A 50-year-old woman and her two teenage grandchildren were killed in a house fire in Telangana's Nalgonda district, suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit and a cooking gas cylinder explosion.

The incident occurred around midnight at Kalalwada Colony in Miryalaguda town, where the victims, Vanam Chandramma and her grandchildren, Laxman (16) and Pranathi (14), were asleep.

Police said the family attempted to escape but were trapped inside due to the sudden cylinder explosion, which engulfed them in flames.

Firefighting operations were hampered by the narrow lane where the house was located, but officials managed to bring the blaze under control after nearly two hours.

The charred bodies of the victims were found near the main entrance of the house, indicating they had tried to flee the blaze.

The family was being taken care of by Chandramma, who had lost her husband a month ago, while her daughter, Dhanamma, worked in Pune and visited periodically.
