Telangana Jagruti president Kalvakuntla Kavitha made a tearful exit from the state legislative council on Monday, delivering a heartfelt farewell speech that highlighted her role in the statehood movement, her political journey, and the circumstances that led to her suspension and resignation from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by her father, former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Kavitha, overcome with emotion, revealed that she had submitted her resignation from the MLC post on September 3 last year, a day after her suspension from the BRS. She claimed that it was morally right to step down from the position she received from the party, as she had severed ties with it. In a surprise move, Kavitha announced that she would convert her cultural outfit Telangana Jagruti into a full-fledged political party. She expressed her intention to launch an alternative platform ahead of the next assembly elections, vowing to genuinely work for the state's welfare. Kavitha credited her nearly two-decade-long public life to her father, KCR, and Telangana ideologue late K Jayashankar. She claimed to have played a pivotal role in mobilizing women and youth in support of the Telangana movement and bringing pressure on the then UPA government to grant statehood. However, Kavitha alleged that restrictions on her activities began after the formation of Telangana in 2014. She claimed to have been curtailed from exercising her freedom of expression within the party, and that she was eventually expelled through a 'vindictive conspiracy' without being part of key state-level decisions. Kavitha further accused the BRS of massive corruption in major projects and alleged that repeated representations regarding corruption, illegal sand mining, and atrocities on Dalits went unaddressed. She criticized the party's national ambitions, asking what it could accomplish for the nation when it had done little for Telangana in 10 years. Kavitha also alleged that she was jailed due to political vendetta and fought cases against central agencies for three years without party support. She criticized her suspension from BRS, claiming that it was carried out overnight without notice or explanation. The BRS has yet to respond to Kavitha's allegations and her plans to launch a new political outfit. Kavitha remains committed to her goal of the welfare of the people of Telangana, despite her path now being different.
