A Delhi court has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, the owners of a Goa nightclub where a devastating fire killed at least 25 people on December 6, 2025. The brothers, who have been detained in Thailand, are facing charges of causing death and manslaughter due to inadequate fire safety measures. The Goa Police investigation revealed that the Luthra brothers booked flights to Phuket just over an hour after learning about the fire, raising suspicions of their involvement in the tragedy. They are also accused of misleading authorities probing the case. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Goa Police are working to bring the accused duo back to India as soon as possible. The External Affairs Ministry is also examining a request to revoke their passports. In a hearing on the bail plea, the Goa Police told the court that the Luthra brothers had shown no cooperation during the investigation and had misled authorities about their departure from India. The court denied their bail plea, citing their lack of cooperation and involvement in the case. The Luthra brothers' lawyers had argued that they were not absconders and were willing to join the investigation. However, the court rejected their plea, upholding the charges against them. The case has sparked widespread outrage, with the Goa Police arresting five managers and staff members in connection with the deadly fire. The incident has raised questions about the safety measures in place at the nightclub and the responsibility of the owners in ensuring the well-being of patrons.
