The Luthra brothers, co-owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Goa that killed 25 people in a fire, have been detained in Thailand. As the process to deport them to India to face trial begins, the external affairs ministry is examining a request from the Goa government to revoke their passports. According to officials, Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra booked their flights to Thailand on MakeMyTrip just hours after the December 6 blaze. A court in New Delhi had earlier declined to grant them interim protection from arrest, rejecting their claims that they were on a business trip and not responsible for the fire. The Goa Police have arrested five staff members in connection with the fire, which broke out in the early hours of December 6. Meanwhile, the state government is preparing an inquiry report, which is expected to be ready within eight days. Compensation is being disbursed to the families of the victims, and safety audits are being tightened across entertainment venues in Goa. The CBI has already issued an Interpol Blue Corner notice to help bring the Luthra brothers to justice. As the deportation process unfolds, authorities in India are coordinating with their counterparts in Thailand to ensure that the brothers face trial for their alleged role in the tragic incident.
