Thirteen Trinamool Congress MPs, led by Sukhendu Sekhar Ray and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, met West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at a BJP minister's residence, sparking speculation of a party split.
The MPs plan to write a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla requesting separate faction seating.
Notably, except for Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, the other MPs are Lok Sabha members.
For a rebellion within the Trinamool Congress, the rebels would need a 2/3rd majority in the Lok Sabha to avoid expulsion.
Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar stated that around 20 TMC MPs, including herself, will support the BJP-led NDA alliance.
Sukhendu Sekhar Ray resigned from the Rajya Sabha and quit the Trinamool Congress, citing corruption and atrocities against women in the Mamata Banerjee-led government.
