Berhampur, Odisha - Tourism experts are urging stakeholders to showcase the lesser-known attractions in Odisha and Chhattisgarh, two states with immense potential for tourism. At a recent Tourism Exchange event organized by Tourism India Alliance in Gopalpur, experts emphasized the need to promote the unique aspects of these states to attract both domestic and international tourists. Rajeev Kohli, a senior executive with a travel firm, highlighted the beauty of Odisha's calm beaches, often overshadowed by popular destinations like Puri and Konark. He suggested that the state focus on beach tourism, eco-tourism, Buddhist tourism, culture, and heritage, as well as its rich tribal population. Poonam Sharma from the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board noted that the state government has been actively promoting sustainable tourism, granting industry status to tourism in 2024 and introducing a homestay policy. Several steps have been taken to develop a robust tourism ecosystem in Chhattisgarh. Tourism India Alliance president Jagdeep Bhagat appealed to the Odisha government and stakeholders to explore and promote destinations like Gopalpur, Taratarini, and Jirang, which offer a peaceful and serene experience. The event, held from January 8 to 10, brought together tourism professionals from state tourism departments, global bodies, industry experts, and travel companies. Experts agree that by highlighting the unique aspects of Odisha and Chhattisgarh, these states can attract a larger share of tourists and contribute to the country's tourism growth.
