Lucknow: In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, the Uttar Pradesh Police has frozen ₹325.25 crore in financial cyberfraud cases in 2025, accounting for nearly one-fourth of the total amount lost by victims. Between 2017 and mid-December 2025, 87,850 cybercrime cases were registered in the state, with 75,272 cases resulting in action against 53,639 accused. The police have made significant strides in recovering funds, with ₹382.25 crore recovered since 2017. In 2025 alone, the frozen funds were a direct result of prompt complaints filed through the National Cybercrime Reporting portal and the 1930 helpline. The recovery rate has improved from 11% in 2024 to 24% last year, a testament to the improved response time and coordination in tackling financial cyberfrauds. Uttar Pradesh's conviction rate in cybercrime cases stands at 87.8%, nearly double the national average, according to the National Crime Records Bureau data for 2023. The state has expanded its cyber policing infrastructure, increasing the number of cyber police stations from 18 to 75 and training nearly 18,000 police personnel in cybercrime investigation and response. To combat the rise in cybercrime cases, which increased in the post-Covid period as mobile phones, computers, and e-commerce became integral to daily life, the state has strengthened its enforcement efforts. In 2025 alone, the police blocked over 77,000 mobile numbers and disabled 17,692 mobile handsets by blocking their IMEI numbers as part of a coordinated action against cybercriminals. The police urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any incidents of cyberfraud on the 1930 helpline number immediately. Public awareness remains a key component of their strategy in tackling cybercrime.
