The West Bengal government has taken a significant step to enhance the safety of pilgrims attending the annual Gangasagar Mela on Sagar Island. A high-speed lifebuoy drone, capable of reaching speeds of up to 7 meters per second, has been deployed along the Bay of Bengal coast. This cutting-edge device can navigate through rough seas and weather conditions, making it an invaluable asset for search and rescue operations. The lifebuoy drone features a high-resolution video camera, GPS navigation, and a powerful towing capacity of up to 1,000 kg. It can recover from capsizing within two seconds, ensuring uninterrupted operation. The advanced remote controller allows rescuers to navigate precisely and monitor the situation in real-time, thanks to a 1080p HD video feed. Made from high-density, impact-resistant materials, the lifebuoy drone is designed to be safe for distressed individuals to hold onto, preventing secondary injuries. With a range of 1 km, the device can assist multiple survivors or even life rafts, significantly improving the chances of a successful rescue. The Gangasagar Mela, scheduled to take place from January 12 to 15, attracts thousands of pilgrims who offer puja at the Kapil Muni temple after taking the holy dip at the confluence of the River Ganga and the Bay of Bengal. The deployment of the high-tech lifebuoy drone is a testament to the West Bengal government's commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens.
