Spain midfielder Pedri has praised Argentina captain Lionel Messi after his impressive displays at the FIFA World Cup. Despite being 39, Messi has shown few signs of rust, scoring all five of Argentina's goals in their first two group games. Pedri, who played with Messi at Barcelona, attributes his teammate's success to his game intelligence and positional awareness.
'He sees football a little before the others and knows where to be to score a goal,' Pedri explained. 'Messi is always a step ahead, a touch faster to react, always planning his next move.'
Messi's goals at the World Cup have broken numerous records, including becoming the all-time leading scorer in World Cup history with 18 goals. However, his ultimate goal is to captain Argentina to back-to-back World Cup trophies.
