Alabama Governor Orders Flags at Half-Mast to Honor Slain College Student Ella Cook
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey ordered flags at half-staff through Dec. 19 to honor Ella Cook, an Alabama native killed in the Brown University shooting.
In a show of respect, US flags in Alabama will be lowered to half-mast from December 15 to 19, as per an order by Governor Kay Ivey. This decision was made in memory of Ella Cook, a 20-year-old Brown University sophomore from Alabama who lost her life in a shooting at the university on Saturday. Ivey took to social media to announce the order, expressing her condolences to Cook's family and the people of Alabama. Cook was an active member of Brown University's conservative circles, serving as the Vice President of the College Republicans. The New York Young Republican Club also paid tribute to her, describing her as a 'leading Republican voice' at the university. Two students were killed in the shooting, including 18-year-old Uzbek international student Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, with seven others injured but in stable condition. As the community mourns the loss of Ella Cook, flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset on Friday, December 19.
