Claudio Manuel Neves Valente was identified as the suspect in the Brown University shooting on December 13 that had left two dead.
A suspect in the Brown University shooting that left two dead and nine injured on December 13 has been identified as Claudio Manuel Neves Valente. The 48-year-old, a Portuguese national and former Brown University student, died by self-inflicted gunshot wound in Salem. Authorities have linked him to the shooting of MIT professor Nuno Loureiro and accuse him of interstate murder.
According to Brown University President Christina Paxson, Valente was enrolled at the college from 2000 to 2001, studying physics, but left in 2003. The shooting occurred in the Barus & Holley building, where he had taken classes as a student.
A tip from a concerned citizen played a crucial role in cracking the case, leading investigators to Valente's car rental, matching clothing, and ultimately, his identity. Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha commended the individual for coming forward with critical information.
