The California earthquake series continues, with the Bay Area experiencing a series of tremors on Friday, December 19, according to data from the US Geological Survey (USGS). Residents have been dealing with earthquake swarms for about a week. Multiple posts on social media confirmed that the tremors were felt across cities like San Ramon, Hayward, Dublin, and Pleasanton. Notably, a 3.1-magnitude quake struck near San Ramon on Tuesday, December 16, followed by a dozen smaller quakes. San Ramon has been at the epicenter of recent seismic activity, with at least 21 earthquakes ranging from 2.9 to 4.0 magnitude occurring over the past two months, according to USGS data. This includes multiple quakes in the past week, including a 2.9-magnitude quake on December 13 and a 2.8-magnitude quake on December 14. While USGS research geophysicist Annemarie Baltay downplays the concern, stating that small events are not indicative of an impending large earthquake, she emphasizes the importance of preparedness. 'We live in earthquake country, so we should always be prepared for a large event,' she said. In fact, USGS data reveals a 72 percent chance of a magnitude 6.7 or larger earthquake occurring in the Bay Area between now and 2043. With the recent string of earthquakes, residents are advised to remain vigilant and prepared for any eventuality.
