A devastating fire swept through a seven-story office building in Jakarta, Indonesia's capital, killing at least 22 people and leaving several others feared trapped. The blaze broke out on the first floor of the building, which houses Terra Drone Indonesia, a company that provides drone services to various sectors.
According to Central Jakarta police chief Susatyo Purnomo Condro, the fire was sparked by a battery on the first floor. Despite efforts by employees to extinguish the flames, the fire spread rapidly, fueled by the presence of a warehouse on the same floor. Thick black smoke billowed into the sky, causing panic among nearby residents and workers.
The victims, including five men and 15 women, were identified as the employees who were present in the building at the time of the fire. Tragically, one of the deceased was a pregnant woman. The fire has been extinguished, but rescue efforts are ongoing to evacuate those who may be trapped.
The incident highlights the importance of fire safety measures in high-rise buildings, particularly in areas with high population density. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, and authorities are working to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future.
