Jets CB Kris Boyd Shooting Suspect Arrested: Meet Frederick Green, Charges Explained
New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was shot outside a restaurant on November 16 and was critically injured, but survived.
New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was critically injured in a shooting on November 16 near Midtown Manhattan. Authorities have now apprehended 20-year-old Frederick Green, a Bronx resident, in connection with the incident.
Green, a suspect in the case, was taken into custody in Buffalo on December 8. He faces charges of attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the New York Police Department.
The shooting occurred outside Sei Less, a popular restaurant in Midtown Manhattan, after an argument between Boyd and Green allegedly escalated into a large brawl involving dozens of people. The exact nature of the argument remains unclear.
Boyd, a 29-year-old Texan, was shot in the abdomen and suffered a bullet wound to his lung. Despite his injuries, he was able to recover and even made a surprise visit to the Jets' training facility in New Jersey last week.
Boyd has not played in the current season due to a shoulder injury that required surgery, and was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list in August. He joined the Jets on a reported $1.6 million contract after previously playing for the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston's practice squad.
The US Marshals Service assisted the NYPD in apprehending Green, who was described as a 'person of interest' prior to his arrest.
