A 29-year-old woman from Chicago has finally landed a job after a two-year job hunt, thanks to a lighthearted meme she posted on Facebook. Allie Latic, who graduated with a master's degree in library and information science in 2023, had applied to over 500 jobs before receiving her first official offer in July 2025. Despite following conventional job-hunting advice, she faced rejection after rejection. Latic's emotional toll from the constant rejections took a heavy weight on her, with many assuming she must not have been doing enough to secure a job. However, she maintains that she was doing everything right, from networking to customizing her resume and cover letters. That all changed after she posted a humorous meme as a joke, featuring a photo of herself next to a giant tomato sculpture, her astrological signs, and a plea to be hired. The post went viral, with over 200 reactions and multiple comments from hiring managers, resulting in 25 job leads across various fields. One of the hiring managers who reached out was the owner of a boudoir photography studio, who was drawn to the authenticity and personality in Latic's meme. She eventually landed a part-time management role at the studio, overseeing client experiences, writing blogs, and handling sales. Latic's unexpected success has inspired others to create their own 'resume memes.' She believes that job-hunting advice needs to be updated for Gen Z, who resonates with authenticity and directness. Her advice to those stuck in a long job hunt is to 'do something silly' and make people stop scrolling to empathize with them.
