Khan Sisters Confront Pak Authorities Over Denial of Meeting Rights
Imran Khan's sister Aleema reportedly said that every Tuesday, they were stopped from meeting him, alleging that authorities were fearful of him. | World News
Imran Khan's family and senior PTI leaders held a sit-in protest near Rawalpindi's Factory Naka on Tuesday, after being denied permission to meet the former PM at Adiala jail. The protest, which started at 3:30 pm local time, ended on Tuesday night. This is not the first time Khan's family has been barred from meeting him - over the past few weeks, they have been repeatedly denied access.
Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 17 years in prison in the Toshakhana-II case. Khan's sister Aleema claimed that authorities are fearful of Imran Khan, citing the fact that he and his wife are imprisoned in solitary confinement and subjected to mental torture. Aleema also stated that Imran Khan had instructed party members to prepare for protests, warning that anyone discussing negotiations would not be representing the party.
Ahead of the protest, security was increased in Rawalpindi, with over 1,300 police officers and security personnel deployed across the city to maintain law and order. The deployment includes senior police officials, commandos, and members of the Anti-Riots Management Wing. The protest marks the latest development in the ongoing saga surrounding Imran Khan's imprisonment and the PTI's efforts to seek justice.
