A lockdown at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona has been lifted after officials confirmed there was no active threat. The base, which serves as a major US Air Force training center for F-35 fighter pilots, was placed on lockdown on Friday after reports of an active shooter. According to officials, personnel on base were directed to shelter in place and follow guidance from first responders. Law enforcement and emergency personnel responded to the incident, and the public was asked to avoid the area. Located in Maricopa County, approximately 15 miles west of downtown Phoenix, Luke Air Force Base is one of the largest training centers in the US. The incident occurred just a day after the suspect in the Brown University shooting and slaying of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor was identified as Claudio Neves Valente, who was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Valente, a 48-year-old former Brown student and Portuguese national, was responsible for killing two students and wounding nine others at Brown University's Providence campus on Saturday. He also killed MIT professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro in his home in the Boston suburb of Brookline. The incident at Luke Air Force Base is not believed to be related to the Brown University shooting. Authorities have not released any information on potential injuries or suspects related to the incident at the base.
