Netflix Christmas Chaos: Fans Fume as NFL Games Crash During Casting
Several NFL fans are reporting issues with Netflix during the Washington Commanders vs Dallas Cowboys Christmas Day game on Thursday
Christmas Day NFL fans were left frustrated as Netflix experienced a mysterious outage during Thursday's Washington Commanders vs Dallas Cowboys game. Downdetector, a platform tracking online issues, reported over 500 complaints, but Netflix's server status page remained unaffected.
The streaming giant claims to be functioning normally: 'We are not currently experiencing an interruption to our streaming service.'
Casting Conundrums
Fans took to social media to express their concerns about Chromecast and captions. 'Prohibiting casting an NFL game from the Netflix app to a Chromecast is absurd,' said one user. 'Why can't I close captions?' asked another.
Chromecast Compatibility
Netflix does support Chromecast devices, but there's a catch. Newer models running Google TV require users to install the Netflix app directly on the device. Older, remote-free Chromecast units still allow seamless casting from mobile devices. Alternatively, users can stream from a computer via the Chrome browser.
Streaming Workarounds
To cast Netflix on an older Chromecast, launch the app, tap the Cast symbol, select your device, and choose the content to watch. For Google TV-equipped Chromecast models, open the Netflix app using the remote and navigate through the title search. On a computer, open Chrome, sign in to Netflix.com, and select the Cast option to project content onto your TV.
