New Jersey Twins Arrested for Graphic Threats Against DHS Officials: A Warning to End Violence
Ricardo and Emilio Roman-Flores face charges after violent posts targeting ICE.
In a disturbing case of escalating online threats, New Jersey twins Ricardo Antonio Roman-Flores and Emilio Roman-Flores have been taken into custody for allegedly issuing graphic threats against a senior Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official and urging their followers to resort to violence against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
According to a DHS press release dated December 9, the brothers' online posts, shared on X, targeted Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, a prominent spokesperson for DHS's immigration enforcement efforts. The messages, which combined anti-ICE language with explicit calls for violence, prompted an urgent law-enforcement response.
The case comes amidst a sharp surge in violent rhetoric targeting immigration officers nationwide. Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons has warned of an '8,000% increase in death threats' against ICE personnel.
The Roman-Flores brothers' posts, which included explicit threats to harm McLaughlin, were described as 'despicable' by the Assistant Secretary herself. The messages, which included calls to 'shoot ICE on sight,' have raised concerns about the level of violence and intimidation being directed at immigration officials.
Ricardo Antonio Roman-Flores faces charges of conspiracy to make terroristic threats, while Emilio Roman-Flores is accused of unlawful possession of an assault weapon, possession of prohibited weapons, conspiracy, terroristic threats, criminal coercion, threats, and cyber harassment. Both brothers remain in custody with the Absecon Police Department.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of online threats and the need for urgent action to address the growing trend of violence against immigration officials. As the DHS continues to work to protect its personnel, it is essential that the public understands the severity of these threats and the importance of promoting a culture of respect and civility online.
