Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi has been hospitalized twice after a violent arrest by Iranian security forces, her family claims. Mohammadi, a prominent human rights activist, was taken into custody on December 12 for criticizing the suspicious death of lawyer Khosrow Alikordi. The arrest came just a year after she was released from prison, where she won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 for her decades-long campaign against the death penalty and for women's rights. Her family says she was beaten repeatedly during the arrest, forcing her to visit the emergency room twice. Mohammadi had been released from Tehran's Evin prison in December last year to receive medical treatment, but her family claims she is still facing threats from security forces, including accusations of cooperating with the Israeli government. The Iranian authorities have not commented on the matter. A local prosecutor had previously accused Mohammadi and Alikordi's brother of making provocative remarks at the lawyer's memorial ceremony, but Mohammadi's family disputes these claims, saying she was simply exercising her right to free speech.
