According to Rochester Police Chief David Smith, officers assigned to the Genesee section responded to a call in the 600 block of Chili Avenue around 10:15 pm. Several shots were fired, and the suspect fled. A second shootout occurred down Thurston Road, resulting in the suspect's death.
The injured officers were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where their conditions remain unknown. Mayor Malik Evans called for prayers for the officers, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing their safety and well-being.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office expressed solidarity with the Rochester Police Department, while reassuring the public that there is no ongoing threat. The investigation is ongoing, and roads in the area were closed for several hours.
Chief Smith confirmed that the officers are receiving medical attention, stating, "They are at Strong Hospital. I don't have statuses on them now." Mayor Evans added, "We don't want to speculate, but right now our priority is the safety of our officers.
