New Zealand reporter Jessica Tyson got more than she bargained for while filming a news segment on fast fashion in Auckland. A seagull suddenly flew into her face, causing a visible cut above her left eye. The shocking moment was caught on camera and later shared on social media.
The incident occurred on December 2 when Tyson, a former Miss World New Zealand, was shooting a story for Te Ao with Moana, a current affairs programme that explores news from a Maori perspective. As she prepared for a second take, the seagull struck her, jolting her head to the side.
Tyson's colleagues quickly rushed to her aid, and she was visibly shaken. She later appeared on screen with a cut above her left eye and blood trailing down her cheek. In a Facebook post, Tyson revealed that the bird's beak or claws must have hit her, leaving her with a scar above her left eye, just below her eyebrow.
Despite the scare, Tyson assured her followers that she is fine and has already returned to work. She also jokingly noted that she has been having a series of unfortunate accidents, including cutting her finger and falling off her bicycle. Tyson even performed a karakia, a Maori prayer, to prevent further mishaps.
Social media users were quick to react to the incident, with many expressing concern and humour. Tyson's resilience and sense of humour have left her fans impressed, and she has finally understood why people are afraid of birds.
