A shocking attack unfolded at Taipei's Main subway station on Friday evening, leaving at least three people dead and six others injured. The incident began when a 27-year-old man, identified as Chang Wen, threw a smoke grenade near an underground exit, triggering a stampede among the public. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with people running in all directions.
The suspect then made his way to the Eslite department store, where he allegedly stabbed multiple people with a knife, targeting mostly those in the neck area. The stabbing occurred on both the first and fourth floors of the store.
According to Taiwanese authorities, one of the victims was a pedestrian who suffered a cardiac arrest before being taken to a hospital. Another person was hospitalized due to respiratory problems caused by the smoke bomb.
The suspect, who was wanted for failing to report for military training and violating mandatory service laws, ultimately took his own life by jumping from the sixth floor of a nearby building. He was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but authorities are investigating the incident. This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the city and has raised concerns about public safety.
