Los Angeles - New information has emerged in the tragic deaths of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Reiner, whose official death certificates have been released. The documents confirm that the couple died from 'multiple sharp force injuries caused by a knife' at their Los Angeles residence on Sunday.
The devastating incident unfolded within minutes, with Rob being found first at 3:45 PM and Michele at 3:46 PM. The couple has since been cremated.
Their 32-year-old son Nick, who has been open about his struggles with schizophrenia, has been arrested in connection with the murders and is facing two counts of first-degree murder. The charges carry a maximum life sentence without parole or the death penalty.
At a press conference, Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed the arrest, describing the incident as 'very, very tragic.' Nick Reiner briefly appeared in court on December 17 but has yet to enter a plea.
Rob and Michele Reiner are survived by two other children, son Jake, a former local news reporter, and daughter Romy. Rob also adopted a daughter, Tracy Reiner, during his marriage to actress and director Penny Marshall.
The Los Angeles Police Department initially investigated the deaths as a homicide, but no suspect was identified until Nick's arrest. The case continues to unfold, with Nick facing a severe punishment for the alleged crimes.
