Trump's Prescription Price Cuts: A New Initiative to Save Americans Money
President Trump has launched TrumpRx.gov to reduce prescription drug costs, claiming price cuts of 400% to 600% by January 2026.
In a bid to tackle rising prescription costs, President Donald Trump has unveiled TrumpRx.gov, a website set to launch in January 2026. The platform aims to provide Americans with significantly lower prices on prescription medications. During a White House press conference, Trump claimed to have directly negotiated with pharmaceutical companies and foreign governments to secure dramatic price reductions, boasting that he's the first politician to take on the special interests and reduce prescription drug prices.
TrumpRx.gov is a central portal that will allow Americans to purchase or access prescription medications at lower prices. Although the site is not yet operational, it currently displays a 'Coming soon' message. The first wave of price cuts, which will range from 400% to 600%, will be rolled out through the platform.
According to Trump, his plan bypasses inflated pricing structures maintained by insurers and middlemen, accusing health insurance companies of profiting from billions of dollars meant for patients. He also criticized the Affordable Care Act, calling it 'unaffordable' and claiming it benefits insurance companies. The announcement comes as millions of Americans face sharp premium increases due to the expiration of enhanced subsidies for ACA marketplace plans. The average premium is expected to roughly double next year, as reported by PBS NewsHour.
