The mother of Brian Cole Jr, the man accused of placing pipe bombs outside the US Capitol on January 5, 2021, has been subjected to online harassment after a photo of her son was shared on social media. Delicia Cole, a Virginia resident, had posted the picture of her son on Instagram for National Sons' Day in September 2024, but has since turned off comments on her posts. The online backlash comes as authorities announced the arrest of Cole, who was taken into custody in Woodbridge, Virginia, after a months-long investigation. The FBI had circulated surveillance images of a masked suspect seen near the Republican and Democratic national party headquarters on the night of the Capitol attack. Cole, who allegedly began experimenting with explosive devices in 2019, has been charged with the use of an explosive device and attempted malicious destruction using explosive materials. The arrest was credited to the Trump administration's renewed focus on the case, with Attorney General Pam Bondi stating that investigators from multiple agencies spent months re-examining evidence to secure a solid lead.
