Content creator and actor Ashish Chanchlani has ventured into the sci-fi space with his YouTube series Ekaki, blending horror, comedy, and extraterrestrial elements. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Ashish revealed that the idea for the series came from his fascination with aliens and the fear of the unknown.

The concept of Ekaki struck Ashish during a casual conversation with friends, where he suggested that the fear of the unknown could be attributed to aliens rather than ghosts. The screenplay took a long time to develop, as Ashish aimed to keep the concept simple despite being science fiction.

The story revolves around a dangerous alien whose mission to extract minerals threatens Earth. Ashish intentionally reversed familiar alien tropes seen in Koi… Mil Gaya, making the alien hate the sun and appear dangerous. The project marked a turning point in Ashish's career, as he felt the need to experiment beyond relatable comedy sketches.

Ashish admitted that Ekaki has not been financially rewarding so far, but he is confident that it will earn money in the future. He rejected a lucrative offer from an OTT platform, choosing to release the series on YouTube to reach a wider audience.

Ashish also addressed comparisons between a scene in Ekaki and the finale of Stranger Things, insisting that the similarity is coincidental. He revealed that the scene was written three years ago, and he is happy that the ideas matched the Stranger Things team.
