National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval has arrived in Beijing for a two-day visit aimed at advancing discussions on the India-China boundary dispute and improving bilateral relations. He is scheduled to participate in the 25th round of Special Representatives (SR) talks with Chinese Foreign Minister and counterpart Wang Yi.
The high-level meeting, scheduled for tomorrow, is expected to focus on the long-standing boundary issue, along with broader bilateral, regional and international developments. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the two officials would hold an in-depth exchange on these matters.
India-China relations faced significant challenges following the Galwan Valley clash in 2020 and the subsequent military standoff in eastern Ladakh. However, diplomatic and military engagements in recent years have helped both countries move towards stabilising ties.
The Special Representatives mechanism was established in 2003 to seek a fair and mutually acceptable settlement to the boundary question along the more than 3,400-kilometre India-China border.
Ahead of the talks, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stressed that maintaining peace and tranquillity along the border remains essential for developing stable relations between the two countries.
During his Beijing visit, Doval is also expected to meet Chinese Vice President Han Zheng.
