Bollywood actor Fatima Sana Shaikh has been open about her battle with epilepsy to raise awareness about the neurological condition. She shared her experiences on Soha Ali Khan's podcast All About Her, recalling the first time she suffered from a seizure and getting diagnosed with epilepsy during the shoot of Dangal.
She remembered her earliest memory of a seizure, which happened when she was 15 years old and in a dance class. She passed out and woke up in a hospital with no memory of what happened. The doctor initially thought it was for attention and suggested that she might be under the influence of drugs.
However, Fatima got tests done to prove that she was not under any influence. She then started experiencing auras, which are warning signs of a seizure, during the Dangal shoot. The team, including Aamir Khan and Sanya Malhotra, took care of her and eventually took her to a doctor who put her on medication.
However, the medication had severe side effects, and Fatima stopped taking it. She was scared of getting seizures in public and would often lock herself in the bathroom to avoid it. She eventually stopped taking medication and went without it for four years.
On the work front, Fatima will be seen in the courtroom drama series Nyaya, directed by Karan Kapadia and Nitya Mehra.
