Forbes Magazine has released its annual list of billionaires, featuring 4000 of the world’s most influential and wealthiest people, including over 300 from India.

Kalanithi Maran, a media baron and owner of Sun Pictures, has been crowned India’s richest filmmaker for the fourth year in a row, with a staggering net worth of ₹26000 crore ($2.8 billion).

His wealth surpasses the combined net worth of Bollywood biggies like Shah Rukh Khan, Aditya Chopra, and Karan Johar.

Kalanithi Maran’s success can be attributed to his family’s modest publishing business, which he handled in the 80s, and the launch of the Sun TV Network in 1993, a regional television heavyweight with 37 channels reaching over 140 million households in India.

His business investments also include newspapers, radio, direct-to-home television, and three cricket teams.
