Malayalam Director Chidambaram Gets Bail in Sexual Assault Case

Malayalam filmmaker Chidambaram S Poduval, accused of sexually harassing a young woman in 2022, has been granted anticipatory bail. The District and Sessions Court, Ernakulam, on Saturday (March 7) granted the bail to the director. The incident allegedly took place in 2022, where Chidambaram was accused of trespassing into the complainant’s apartment and sexually misbehaving with her. The case was registered under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police said.

Before news of his sexual harassment case broke, Chidambaram made his previously public Instagram account private. He later took to social media and responded to the allegations, asking people to verify before posting anything.

Chidambaram, a Payyanur native, began his career in the Malayalam film industry as an assistant director and assistant cinematographer. He debuted as a director with the 2021 film Jan.E.Man and gained fame with the 2024 film Manjummel Boys, which became one of the Malayalam film industry’s highest-grossing films.
