Penélope Cruz is singing the praises of writer-director Maggie Gyllenhaal for her modern spin on the classic tale of The Bride. The Gothic romance film, starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, is a fresh take on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.

Cruz shared her thoughts on the film, saying that the 'monsters' in the story are not the obvious ones that you'd expect to run away from. Instead, they're 'very attractive' and 'very attractive together', making them intriguing and full of energy.

The film's tone, according to Cruz, is 'punk' - wild, romantic, and smart, with many layers and colors. She praises Gyllenhaal's decision to humanize the characters, making it possible to see their souls.

The Bride! also stars Peter Sarsgaard and Annette Bening, and follows the story of a lonely 'Frank' who travels to 1930s Chicago to ask a scientist to create a companion for him. What ensues is a wild and combustible romance.

The film was distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and released in India on March 6.
