Actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar has lashed out at writer Sai Madhav Burra for his comment on her directorial debut, S Saraswathi, saying it was 'insensitive' and 'rude' to use the word 'rape' on a sensitive issue.
Burra had claimed that Varalaxmi changed his original story for the film, calling it a 'rape' of his work.
Varalaxmi, however, explained that she had to change the story to fit the film's tone and that Burra was too busy with other projects to give her feedback.
She also spoke about her own experiences with abuse as a child and why she chose to make a film about a female survivor, sparking a debate about representation in cinema.
