A 30-year-old BTech graduate from Andhra Pradesh, Prashant Vedam, was detained near the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan's Bikaner district on Friday. Vedam, a resident of Visakhapatnam, claimed he was attempting to cross over to meet his online girlfriend, Pravita, who lives in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. According to police, Vedam had gotten off a bus in Khajuwala and started walking towards the International Border when soldiers from an Army camp stopped him due to suspicious behavior. He was handed over to the Khajuwala police, who are now investigating his motives. Vedam has an alleged history of border violations, having crossed into Pakistan in 2017 and being imprisoned for four years before being handed over to Indian authorities in 2021. His family in Andhra Pradesh has been informed, and his brother is on his way to assist the authorities. As intelligence agencies question Vedam, concerns have been raised about the possibility of cross-border espionage. Vedam's family and friends have expressed shock at his actions, and the incident has sparked a debate about the complexities of online relationships and the risks involved in crossing international borders.
