Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) issued a fresh advisory on Saturday, citing over 129 flight cancellations due to the severe fog that blanketed the city. The airport operator, DIAL, confirmed that low visibility procedures were in place, assuring that flight operations were functioning normally despite the disruptions. While the airport reported that all flights were operating smoothly, passengers were advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates on flight schedules. According to airport officials, the cancellations were a result of dense fog, which has been disrupting flight operations at Delhi and other airports for several days. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) had issued a weather advisory earlier, warning of reduced visibility across northern India and potential flight disruptions. The national capital woke up to a thick layer of fog on Saturday, with the air quality index reaching 'very poor' levels and minimum temperatures dipping to 6.1 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an orange alert, predicting shallow to moderate fog during night and early morning hours, with patches of cloud cover and foggy conditions persisting till afternoon. A yellow alert has also been issued for Sunday and Monday, with visibility expected to remain low during morning hours. At 11 am on Saturday, the general visibility at the airport was recorded at 500 metres, according to Hindustan Times. Passengers are advised to check the airport's website (https://www.newdelhiairport.in/winter-travel/) for the latest updates on flight schedules and cancellations.
