Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has informed the Rajya Sabha that the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, spanning 1,350 km across five states, is now expected to be completed by 2027-28. The original deadline was set for March 2024. Despite this delay, significant progress has been made, with 94% of the work on the Delhi–Noida Direct (DND) Flyway to Jaitpur stretch completed, with a target completion date of June 2026. Additionally, the Sohna–Dausa–Lalsot stretch in Haryana and Rajasthan has been operational since February 2023. According to Gadkari, 649 out of 1,208 under-construction national highway projects have exceeded their original completion schedules. This delay is not an isolated incident, as the government has acknowledged that several projects face delays ranging from a few months to over three years. However, the minister also highlighted a positive development, with 3,468 km of national highways built in the current financial year, surpassing the halfway mark of the target 10,000 km for the year.
