A thick blanket of fog enveloped Delhi on Saturday, causing over 100 flights to be cancelled at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. According to officials, 66 arriving flights and 63 departures were grounded due to poor visibility, with the airport's visibility recorded at just 500 meters at 11 am IST. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast partly cloudy skies with shallow to moderate fog in the city, which led to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) issuing a weather advisory warning of possible flight disruptions. As a precaution, low-visibility procedures were implemented at major airports, including Delhi's IGI Airport. Domestic carrier IndiGo also issued a travel advisory, cautioning passengers of possible disruptions to flights operating to and from Ranchi, Jammu, and Hindon. To mitigate the impact, AAI deployed dedicated passenger facilitation teams at airports to provide assistance and support. Passengers were advised to remain in regular contact with their airlines for real-time updates and to allow additional time for travel and airport formalities. Flight operations at Jaisalmer Airport were also impacted by dense fog, with airlines directed to follow strict passenger facilitation norms in the interest of safety and convenience. The situation is being closely monitored, and passengers are advised to stay informed about any updates or changes in their flight schedules.
