A Jammu court has issued a non-bailable warrant against Saifullah alias Sajid Jatt, the key handler of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, on the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) request. The move comes as the NIA filed a 1,500-page charge sheet in the case, linking Pakistan to the conspiracy. Sajid Jatt, also known as Ali Bhai, Habibullah Malik, and Langda, is a designated terrorist by the Union home ministry. The 57-year-old resident of Changa Nanga in Pakistan's Punjab province has been accused of providing logistical support to terrorists in the Kashmir Valley. According to investigators, Jatt joined Lashkar-e-Taiba in 1998 and was active in Yaripora, Kulgam District. He had a personal connection with a local woman, Shubi, married her in 2005, and had a son before leaving Kashmir in 2006. The NIA probe has revealed that Jatt was in regular contact with three terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 people, including 25 tourists and a pony operator. The April 22 attack had brought India and Pakistan to the brink of war, prompting a military operation, Operation Sindoor, in May. The NIA charge sheet has implicated LeT and Pakistan's military and intelligence agencies in protecting Jatt, who is now a fugitive. The development is seen as a significant step towards bringing the mastermind behind the Pahalgam attack to justice, amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
