India is on the cusp of becoming the world's third-largest economy by next year, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Saturday. Shah made the statement in Jaipur while inaugurating a global expo summit, emphasizing the importance of promoting domestic products and prioritizing the mother tongue to achieve the goal of an 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' or self-reliant India. Shah credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for leading the country from its 11th position in the global economy to its current fourth spot. He expressed confidence that India will surpass the United Kingdom to become the third-largest economy in the world by next year. To achieve the goal of an 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', Shah called upon everyone to promote and increase the use of domestic products while prioritizing their mother tongue in every sector. He praised the Maheshwari community, calling them 'job creators' instead of 'job seekers', and urged young people to learn from their example. Shah also hailed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Rajasthan for ending corruption and establishing a stable law and order situation in the state. He highlighted the decline in crime rates in Rajasthan, including a 14% overall drop in crime, a 19% decrease in serious crimes, and a 51% drop in looting cases, in just two years. The Union Home Minister also emphasized the benefits of replacing the Indian Penal Code with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which has brought significant improvement to Rajasthan's justice system. He said the new laws incorporate advanced technologies and focus on improving the police's work procedures, jail system, and forensic science laboratories. However, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot criticized Shah for failing to deliver justice to the family of tailor Kanhaiya Lal, who was murdered in Udaipur in 2022. Gehlot called upon Shah to break his 'political silence' and explain when the family would receive justice.
