The All India Shia Personal Law Board has announced a three-day shutdown of businesses and a nationwide protest in response to the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to Maulana Yasoob Abbas, the General Secretary of the board, black flags will be hoisted on homes across the country, and gatherings will be held to mourn Khamenei's death. The protests follow reports that Khamenei was killed in a US-Israeli strike on February 28, alongside several family members. Shia communities in various cities, including Lucknow, Bhopal, Hyderabad, and Aligarh, have already held protests and candlelight marches to condemn the killing. In Lucknow, Shia cleric Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawad declared that the people of Iran would never bow down to oppression, and that Israel and America would be defeated. Similar sentiments were echoed by Maulana Bahlol Raza in Aligarh, who stated that the protest was a message to the world that the Shia community would continue to raise their voices for the oppressed. The All India Shia community is not alone in its grief and outrage. Members in Ayodhya and Jammu have also staged protests, demanding justice and voicing their support for Khamenei. Iran has declared 40 days of public mourning in response to the Supreme Leader's death, and Khamenei's tenure was marked by a consistent opposition to Western influence. Khamenei succeeded Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Iranian Revolution, in 1989. His death has sparked widespread protests and condemnations across the Shia community in India, with many calling for swift vengeance against those responsible for the attack.
