Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted the remarkable achievements of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), describing the scheme as a transformative initiative that has delivered unprecedented results in financial inclusion over the past 12 years.
In a social media post, Prime Minister Modi said that the Jan Dhan Yojana is playing a significant role in expanding access to banking services and empowering people across the country. He noted that the scheme has helped bring millions of citizens into the formal banking system.
According to the latest figures, more than 59 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened across India, with total deposits reaching around ₹3.17 lakh crore. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 28, 2014, with the objective of ensuring access to basic financial services for every household.
The initiative has made significant progress in rural and semi-urban areas, with around 78 percent of accounts opened in these regions. Women have also benefited substantially, accounting for approximately 56 percent of Jan Dhan account holders.
PM Modi said the world's largest financial inclusion initiative continues to redefine access to banking and strengthen economic empowerment among citizens.
