The Delhi Police has apprehended a 31-year-old man from Punjab for allegedly scamming multiple women through matrimonial websites and social media. Dashmeet Singh, a resident of Rajpura, used to pose as a prospective groom to gain the trust of his victims, before inducing them to transfer money. The money was then spent on lavish parties and expensive liquor. According to the police, the case came to light after a woman from Delhi's Shalimar Bagh reported being cheated of ₹86,500. Following her complaint, an FIR was registered and an investigation was launched. The police team analyzed digital footprints and money trails, which led them to Singh's bank account and social media profiles. During interrogation, Singh revealed that he resorted to the scam due to financial difficulties at home and to support his extravagant lifestyle. He frequently changed locations, initially staying in Delhi's Janakpuri, before shifting to Punjab. Singh, a graduate and former dispatch manager, is currently under investigation for his potential involvement in other similar cases. The police have seized his mobile phone and are analyzing his transactions to determine the full extent of his scam.
