In a significant address to Ethiopia's Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India's commitment to the Global South's rise, envisioning a world where technology, sovereignty, and prosperity are shared by all. This vision, Modi said, is not against anyone but for a more just, equal, and peaceful world. During his two-day visit to Ethiopia, Modi met with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and outlined the scope for India and Ethiopia to play a larger role in securing regional peace and connectivity. He highlighted the potential for cooperation in trade, investment, mining, and food security, as well as the importance of a fair development model that prioritizes technology sharing, affordable finance, and capacity building. Modi noted that India and Ethiopia have a shared vision for the Global South, which seeks to create a world that reflects contemporary reality, not the past. He emphasized the need for a global governance structure that is more representative of today's world, rather than being locked in outdated systems. The Indian Prime Minister also highlighted the historic links between India and Ethiopia, citing the example of Indian soldiers who fought alongside Ethiopians in 1941 and thousands of Indian teachers who taught in Ethiopian schools. He expressed hope that the two countries would continue to work together as equals and partners, building a brighter future for all. Modi's address to the Ethiopian Parliament comes as India seeks to position itself as the voice of the Global South amid intense geopolitical changes on the international stage. The visit marks the second leg of Modi's three-nation tour, which also includes Oman, and is expected to further strengthen ties between India and Ethiopia.
