The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has called for immediate action to resume the stalled Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project (RLIP), a crucial water supply project for the drought-prone Rayalaseema region. The party held a massive rally in Nandyal district, demanding that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government complete the project at any cost. At the rally, YSRCP state coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy accused the TDP government of deliberately halting the project, which he said would have severe consequences for the region, including turning it into a desert. He warned that the party would launch a widespread movement, exposing alleged conspiracies against Rayalaseema and creating awareness among the people. Sajjala questioned the silence of TDP leaders, particularly Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, on the issue. He pointed out that Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had publicly claimed that Naidu had asked him to stall the project. The YSRCP leader emphasized that Rayalaseema, like Telangana, must have access to Srisailam water at the 800-feet level to address its water distress. The YSRCP leader accused the TDP of prioritizing Amaravati and real-estate interests over the needs of Rayalaseema. He said the project, which was a lifeline for irrigation and drinking water needs of the region, was sidelined despite major progress under YSRCP. Sajjala vowed that if the TDP fails to complete the project, the YSRCP would do so on a war footing if it returns to power in 2029.
