The Los Angeles Chargers have signed quarterback Trey Lance to a one-year, $6.75 million deal, solidifying him as Justin Herbert's backup.
Lance, 25, returns to the Chargers after a limited role last season, where he started the regular-season finale against the Denver Broncos.
Originally drafted third overall by the San Francisco 49ers in 2021, Lance has yet to receive an extended run of starts in the NFL, playing only 19 games during his college career at North Dakota State.
He started four games with the 49ers, compiling a 2–2 record, before being acquired by the Dallas Cowboys in 2023 and later signing with the Chargers.
