Novak Djokovic overcame a tough challenge from Aleksandar Kovacevic to reach the fourth round at Indian Wells for the first time since 2017.

The 72nd-ranked American pushed the Serb superstar to a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 victory, with 16 aces peppered throughout the match.

Djokovic, playing his first tournament since the Australian Open final, broke Kovacevic in the final game to snatch the win.

With five Indian Wells titles, Djokovic is tied for the record with Roger Federer, but hasn't made it to the quarter-finals in the California desert since 2016.

Next up for Djokovic is a match against either Jack Draper or Francisco Cerundolo for a place in the quarter-finals.
