The Iranian football federation is working closely with FIFA to relocate the team's upcoming World Cup matches from the United States to Mexico due to ongoing tensions between Iran and the USA/Israel.

The development was confirmed by Iran's embassy in Mexico, citing concerns for the team's safety.

Iran's participation in the World Cup is unclear since the war began in the Middle East last month.

Iran's football chief Mehdi Taj stated, 'When the US President has explicitly stated that he cannot ensure the security of the Iranian national team, we will certainly not travel to America.'

The team is scheduled to play against New Zealand, Egypt, and Belgium in Group G, with matches in Los Angeles and Seattle.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino had previously assured the Iranian team would be welcome in the US, but Trump's comments sparked backlash.

The FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be played in the USA, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19.
